‘A’ Party Leader Tony Distance 12.4 miles Climbing 1800 ft Leaving the coach at Hathersage
Leaving the coach at Hathersage we start the walk in a Southerly direction following the River Derwent to Upper Padley, we then cross the railway and make our way to Oxhay Wood then back to Bolehill making our way through the enchanting woods of ‘Padley Gorge’. At Burbage Bridge we cross the A6187 and have a choice of route either Burbage Rocks or and make our way to Carl Mark Fort and Higger Tor before heading back to Hathersage for refreshments. ‘B+’ Party Leaders Phil & Fay Distance 12 miles Climbing 1700 ft Leaving the coach at Bamford
We leave the coach at Bamford and climb up a very steep hill (!) onto Bamford Moor via Bamford Clough. Joining the Sheffield Country Walk along Stanage Edge we pass Robin Hood’s Cave. We descend below Burbage Rocks to Burbage Bridge. We then head up on to Hathersage Moor before dropping back down into Hathersage. ‘B’ Party Leaders Annie Distance 8 miles Climbing 1000 ft Leaving the coach at Hathersage
From Hathersage we will head north through pleasant fields and a small wood via Brookfield Manor, Greens House and Dennis Knoll, to meet a track which rises steadily and turns east onto Stanage Edge. We will lollop southwards along the Edge enjoying extensive and dramatic views, then descend crossing moorland paths towards Higger Tor. We continue the descent through farmland via Mitchell Field and Scraperlow, heading downhill via woods (with bluebells if we’re lucky) to Hathersage and its cafes and pubs, not to mention Little John’s Grave. ‘C’ Party Leader – Rob Distance 6.5 miles Climbing 350 ft Leaving the coach at Hatnersage
We begin our day with refreshments at Cintra’s Cafe in Hathersage, then head south past the railway station to Leadmill Bridge where we join the Derwent Valley Heritage Trail which takes us westwards along the banks of the River Derwent to the village of Shatton. From Shatton we leave the river and head south then east below Glover Bank to re-join the river path back to Leadmill Bridge and Hathersage.
